WebMy car (91 cherokee xj 4x4) has been cranking a lot every time i go to start the car regardless of if its warm or cold. I installed a new crankshaft position sensor and now the check engine light is on. Does anyone know why? I thought this would fix my long cranks issue not make things worse. Long crank problem is still there too :/ Webthe part that is known to fail in these engines that causes no spark is the Crankshaft position sensor, it is located on th right side of the bell housing as u stand in front of truck, it must be changed from below the truck and is very difficult to get at, here is a photo of the sensor and a brief description of the repair Posted on Apr 03, 2009

Web19 dic 2009 · The most common crank but not start issue with the XJ Cherokee is the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS/CPK). I would test the CPS. I have had 4 1997+ Cherokees with no start issues. Two were the CPS/CPK. (The CPS/CPK is one of the few repair parts that I always get from Mopar.
